We believe that outdoor hikes in group settings are a wonderful way to socialize younger dogs from puppyhood (over 7 months) and throughout their adolescence to adulthood. Not only do they receive vigorous exercise, but they also are exposed to various stimuli on hikes and benefit from learning to hike with a group (plus, it's more fun in general!). A daycare environment can be overstimulating and depending on your dog, might not be the best experience. With hikes, pups get to live their most fulfilling lives - romping through the woods & streams with other dogs, and truly making some amazing friends on their hikes as well!
Besides the physical exercise for dogs with a lot of energy to burn! The hikes are also mentally stimulating in exploring the environment and practicing recalls. We work with each dog individually and get to know their personalities and quirks, using postive reinforcement to practice off-leash abilities and reward good group behavior.
We offer two hikes everyday, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Our service areas are Malden, Melrose, Medford, Somerville, Everett, and West Medford. Given that we're a small team of just two people, 1hr / 2hr hike availability depends on the number of people interested - do let us know your preferred hike schedule!
Yes! If your dog is good off-leash with you, we will transition from on-leash to off-leash hikes. All dogs start with us on-leash, then with dragging leashes, and then fully off-leash, as they exhibit good behavior to show they're ready.
We are able to take your dog on leash if they are smaller and not strong pullers, but if they are too strong and pull a lot, it will be too difficult for us to take them on the hikes.
We take dogs on leash, but not especially strong pullers. Also, muzzles in some situations can help a dog safely and securely hike with others - if your dog has a tendency to get overexcited during play and plays hard enough to break skin, or act unpredictably, etc. we would require a basket muzzle. When you contact us, give us a detailed description of your dogs' triggers and reactivity, and we can figure out if your dog would do well on the hikes or not. We do a meet and greet & a trial with a dog first, before we get started on regular hikes.
Unless there's a snowstorm or hurricane, we hike everyday, rain, shine, sleet, or now ! 🌧️ Please leave a towel if you are not home to receive a wet/muddy dog.
